PORTABLE MICROBIAL AIR SAMPLER ACTIVECOUNT

The high-performance microbial air samplers of the ActiveCount100 series are based on the principle of the impaction method. The air flow is directed onto a petri dish containing agar. After the collection cycle, the Petri dish is incubated and the colony-forming units (CFU) are counted. The air sampler is portable, compact, of high quality and features user-friendly software. Measuring cycles and intervals can be easily programmed on the large color touchscreen. The impactor head is exchangeable and autoclavable. The optional remote probe head minimizes disruptions to the laminar air flow within biosafety workbenches and laminar flow boxes.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION OF A MICROBIAL AIR SAMPLER ACCORDING TO ISO 14698-1

With so many different makes and models of microbial air samplers on the market, it is worthwile to study their specifications carefully before making a purchase decision. ISO 14698-1 recommends that the impaction rate of the air sampler be high enough to allow the collection of viable particles up to about 1 µm. On the other hand, the velocity must be slow enough to ensure the viability of viable particles. A filtered air outlet is another essential criterion.

Faster flow rate models do not have better collection efficiency. The key factor for active air sampling in sterile applications and for continuous monitoring of clean rooms is the d50 value. Media can dry out faster at higher flow rates, which requires more media plate changes.
